The best coaches try to build strong leaders on the team, too. They knowthat leadership comes not only from the coaches but from other players, too. Players may ignore the coach at times, but they will think long and hard before challenging a peer.

The best hitters develop a hitting plan before they go up to bat. That is only possible when players know their strengths and weaknesses, as well as clues they receive from watching the opposing pitcher. Coaches can help players with all of those things by asking them some questions that help ballplayers develop a plan for their next at-bat and for adjusting for the future. Of course, the best case scenario is having their coach and parents develop positive character traits in youth. The best athlete's perspective is one that helps them understand concepts like pride, humility, teamwork, focus, work ethic and confidence.
