Struggling Hitters Advice

Coaching hitting, especially when dealing with struggling hitters, is as much mental coaching as it is the physical training. Every hitter will encounter tough spells at one time or another. For team coaches, there will always be a few struggling hitters at any given time. That is the nature of the toughest skill to perfect in all of sports. When any little aspect of hitting a baseball goes awry, be it the mechanics, timing, pitch selection, vision, or confidence - the chance of hitting consistency goes out the window. Many coaches lose confidence in struggling hitters and drop them in the batting order, ignore them, or continually state, "You have to practice more" at times like that. None of those things help a player get back in the groove. The best coaches stay encouraging and provide mechanicaltips to help players get out of their hitting slump. There is no one sure way to help strugglingplayers, but with the right things said from patient adults, kids will figure things out. Giving players hope is the key and that comes from a number of things including teaching players how to visualize. The ability to see oneself perform in positive ways is priceless for athletic success.
