Choosing a Coach for Your Child - Few things more important

Few things are more important than choosing a coach for your child. It can mean the difference between your son or daughter playing sports for a long time or giving up because of a bad experience. Of course, often, especiallyat the lower levels of sports, parents do not get a choice as to who coaches their child. In those instances, parents can only sit back and pray that the assigned coach is a good person who has the best interests of all the kids in mind, and not just the development of the coach's child.

When parents do have a say in choosing a coach, they have to do some homework. First, they should examine their own immediate goals for their young athlete and make sure they are not over the top ones with too high of expectations. Those almost always come back to haunt parents with kids who will understandably not meet them. Second, they should try to decipher their child's attitude towards playing and their goals. Trying to discover whichsport(s) they seem to have the most interest in will give parents a good idea of how serious of a level they should try to find for their child. Once those things have been considered, parents should do the following things for choosing a coach for your child.
