Marty was selected in the 12th round of the 1985 major league draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He reached the major leagues by 1988 and played in 35 games over 2 seasons after being selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the Rule 5 Draft in 1989. He then had an illustrious career playing for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in Japan until 1995. After his 1996 season with Texas, Marty began his managing career in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 1997. From 2001 to 2002, he managed the Nashville Sounds, a team for which he played while in the Reds organization in 1988 and 1989. Brown was the manager of the Buffalo Bison’s, the Cleveland Indians Triple-A affiliate, from 2003 to 2005 and compiled an overall record of 238–193. He led the team to the International League title in 2004 after a regular season record of 83-61. He also managed the club to a first-place finish in their division in 2005 with an 82–62 record. In addition to winning a title, Brown was voted Manager of the Year in 2004, and was also named Minor League Manager of the Year by Baseball America. After his final season in Buffalo, Marty accepted a managing job with his former Japanese team the Hiroshima Toyo Carp where he managed for 4 years. After managing the Carp, Brown accepted another managing job with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, another major league Japanese team. From there he returned to the states and was given the Triple -A job with the Toronto Blue Jays in Las Vegas, Nevada. After two years in Las Vegas, the Blue Jays changed affiliates in 2011 and moved their Triple-A club to Buffalo, NY. Marty finished off his managing career in 2013 after leading the Buffalo Bisons to a 74-70 record.
