Today's hitting drill can be used for a few things, as it helps prevent batters from rolling their wrists early. Every time a ballplayer hits a ball sky high, everyone assumes they dropped under the pitched ball. However, popups are not always caused by hitters dropping the bat barrel or collapsing the back side. On pitches up in the strike zone, players often try to get on top by rolling the top hand at contact. The result is the bat barrel cutting under the ball, which produces high popups. This hitting drill helps batters stay on top of the ball without rolling the wrist early, resulting in line drives, or at the least long fly balls - not popups.
