How to Build Confidence in your child athlete

Little is more discouraging for the sports' parent than seeing their child playing with little or no confidence. The ability to help them build confidence makes that a little easier. Confidence is never an automatic thing, as often very good players with a lot of success still seem to lack self-assurance. Additionally, it can change from game to game with kids. When things are going well, they have confidence and the minute things change it disappears.

The good news is that parents and coaches can help kids with their attitude and confidence levels. That process should begin at home in all aspects of kids' development. Parents should let kids try to figure things out on their own at young ages so they do not depend on mom and dad to fix all their problems. Athletes who expect others come to their rescue when adversity arrives, never develop confidence in themselves or the process necessary to persevere. Sports should just be a continuation of things kids learn at home and school. Placing more emphasis on a child's sports play than on everything else in their lives will lead to players who have little self-confidence.

In today's infographic, parents shouldmake sure they are doing these tips to build confidence in their athletes.
