When I grew up, our coach had a rule that we could not go to the beach on game days, and I was only ten years old. I came to recognize the reason for the rule, even though it was annoying at the time. The truth is that the sun, swimming and cavorting outside with friends does fatigue players, some more than others.

Although it is not a good idea to sit around and dwell on that night's game, getting the proper rest and diet, even for young athletes, is necessary. It is very difficult to maintain focus for a complete game when tired or hungry, even for professional baseball players.
I realize times have changed, but there is nothing wrong with coaches instituting rules like "No beach on game days" to demonstrate the importance of sacrificing some fun for the good of the team, as well as for personal success.
