Common Injuries in Baseball and How to Treat Them
By Chris Sloan, 0 CommentsWhat a great opportunity of a lifetime to be an inspirational coach - and maybe, even be remembered for the rest of kids' lives.
Youth coaches should not miss the opportunity of a lifetime, because if the following method, to be an inspirational coach helps just one kid, it will have been worth it.
No one expects volunteer youth coaches to be experts at sport strategy, or with coaching skills of a sport. Wait, I take that back, some unreasonable parents expect that, but that is a story for another day. However, all youth sport coaches should realize they have the opportunity of a lifetime to be an inspirational coach.
That may seem a lot to expect, also, but the good news is that there is a simple method for becoming an inspirational coach. It is as simple as looking up an inspirational sports quote online or making one up, writing it down, making a copy for each player on the team, and handing it out to players. Doing this for each practice of the season gives players a nice volume of inspirational quotes.
It's that easy to be an inspirational coach, and if coaches want to take it a step further, encourage players to save the quotes, discuss their meaning, memorize them, and be able to recite them at future practices.
The greatest coach, John Wooden, once said that many of his players thought his "Pyramid of Success" was somewhat corny at first, but over time, they began to realize its importance to their lives. Many kids will be the same way with the motivational quotes at first, thinking they are corny, but overtime, many will recognize their value.
The other good news is that there are quotes for many different aspects of sport. For example, coaching teamwork is important. I made up this inspirational sports quote that I like to use to stress teamwork over individual accomplishment (and if I can make one up, anyone can):
Definition of Team:
Together
Everyone
Achieves
More
Following is an inspirational coach quote that paints a nice picture of the importance of hard work:
"The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat at the point of exhaustion, when no one else is watching." Anson Dorrance
Many quotes exist that attest to the value of overcoming adversity as this one does:
"Adversity causes some men to break; others to break records."
William Arthur Ward
Some inspirational sports quotes are on the humorous side, as this David Ortiz Quote" and coaches can use those types to diffuse tension and not point fingers after a tough loss, "There is no one to blame, but everyone."
As you can see, many of these quotes are short, so kids can easily learn them. However, most importantly, coaches seize the "opportunity of a lifetime" to inspire kids.
Of course, coaches must live up to the sports quotes they are passing along, because as the immortal Knute Rockne said, "One man practicing sportsmanship is far better than fifty preaching it.
