The Two Tee Drill - When Are They Necessary

After a while, kids get bored hitting balls off the barrel of the bat on a single batting tee. Additionally, players may get away with incorrect habits, when only hitting the stationary ball on one batting tee. To add some variety and challenge to batting tee practice, two tee-batting drills are good for helping gain the perfect baseball swing. The following two-tee batting drills do just that.

Quality Batting Tee Drills to Help Hitters Hit Consistently

For batters, who pop up or swing under a great number of balls, the "high, low, back tee, drill" helps. This hitting drill develops a compact swing and eliminates the long, uppercut swing. This drill uses a front tee and back tee and works best on high pitches in the strike zone, which are common pitches that batters drop the barrel on, with popped up or missed balls the result. It is necessary to note that, in order to correct bad swing fundamentals, having players slightly exaggerate the opposite of their bad habits, helps correct players' swings.

Line one tee a foot behind the plate the other with both in line towards the pitcher. Put a ball on each tee with the ball on the tee closest to the plate and the catcher a ball's width lower than the front ball both balls are out front of the hitter in the contact zone. Hitters should miss the rear ball but hit line drives on the front ball. At first, ground balls usually result with this drill, but overtime, players turn them into solid line drives with this two tee drill.

Batting Tee Drills To Prevent Bad Strides And Swings

For players who step differently based on the pitched ball location, or who do not understand where to make contact on various pitch locations, the following two tee drill is a good first step to correcting those. The "inside/outside tee drill" develops contact points, understanding of contact points and the same strides.

Batting Drill

Set one tee on the outside corner about 4 inches in front of the batter with lead leg and then hit the other tee on the inside corner about two feet in front of hitter. After the stride, hitters hit the ball (inside or outside) called by the coach. When players have no coach to call out, they alternate hitting one than the other, after taking the same stride before swinging. When done correctly, contact is on one ball, and balls are driven to the direction of the struck ball. With the incorrect swing, players will hot both balls. Helping batters understand that the stride is the same on every pitch, with contact points being different, is usually necessary for inexperienced players.

Batting Tee Drills To Help Swing Extension

Pulling the head, front shoulder, or rolling the wrists early in the swing can result in poor contact and weak swings. However, there is a batting tee drill called the "two tee in line drill" that can help address this problem and aid in the development of proper swing mechanics. To perform this drill, set up two tees in line with a ball at the same height on each tee, and place them about a foot apart. The ball closest to the hitter should be positioned in the prime contact-hitting zone. The drill' objective is to hit line drives with both balls by making contact with the inside back of the ball closest to the hitter and extending the bat through the second ball without rolling the wrists too early. This drill encourages proper swing mechanics, extension through the hitting zone, and improves overall swing power and consistency than any other tee drill we've tried.

The "two tee in line drill" is particularly beneficial for players who tend to pull their head, front shoulder, or roll their wrists early in their swing. By practicing this drill regularly, players can develop muscle memory and reinforce proper swing mechanics, which can translate to better performance in live game situations. This drill also helps players focus on keeping their front shoulder stable and not pulling off the ball, which can lead to more solid straight line contact and improved hitting results at home plate. In addition to improving swing mechanics, the "two tee in line drill" can also help players develop better pitch recognition and timing. By hitting balls from two tees that are positioned at different locations, a front tee and back tee, players can practice adjusting their swing based on the pitch location, whether it's inside or outside. This drill encourages players to maintain a consistent stride and swing path, regardless of the pitch location, which is a crucial skill for hitters to develop. Overall, incorporating the "two tee in line drill" into batting tee practice sessions can be a valuable tool for players looking to improve their swing mechanics, extension, and consistency at the plate.

Batting Drills

Conclusion

The batting two tee drill is essential for baseball players of all ages and skill levels to develop and maintain a consistent and effective swing. The use of two tees in these drills adds variety and challenges to the practice, helping baseball players correct bad habits and improve their swing mechanics. The high, low tee drill helps eliminate uppercut swings and develop a compact swing. The inside/outside tee drill improves contact points and understanding of different pitch locations. The two tee drill in line drill promotes correct swing extension and prevents pulling of the head and shoulders. Incorporating these quality batting tee drills into practice sessions can lead to improved hitting performance on the field. So, grab a couple of tees, set them up creatively, and watch your own baseball players take their hitting skills to the next level!
