Unfortunately, we only get one go around at most things, including our individual sports careers. The good thing is that my biggest regrets have led to the youth baseball lessons I pass on these days.

Baseball video coaching should be a standard teaching tool for all coaches in this video age. No reason exists for why coaches should not use the video advantage, at least occasionally.
I have had the following discussion many times in my coaching career:
Me - "I want you to try it this way."
Player "That's the way I am doing it."
Me "No, it is not." Player, "Yes it is." And back and forth it goes, with no real way of convincing players that just because they think they do it a certain way, makes it so.

Maybe some were not surprised, but people just learning about Joe Maddon must have been impressed with his initial press conference as the new manager of the Chicago Cubs. Being about youth sports, I like to relate all things to that level, and he blew me away. Everything he talked about struck me as being great coaching lessons for youth coaches.

After further reading, I know more about the dangers with early sports specialization. I also agree with study results, but that doesn't make the solutions to many scenarios any easier.
